Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. The brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body control these important functions. The skull protects the delicate tissue of the brain. The moving bones of the spine protect the vulnerable communication pathways of the spinal cord and nerve roots. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissues and the organs throughout the body. Chiropractic is the science of locating the problem, the art of reducing their impact to the nervous system, and the philosophy of all things natural.

Q: I’ve heard that once you go to a chiropractor, you have to go the rest of your life?

A:  This answer depends on how you value your health.  The chiropractic adjustment allows your nervous system (the system that controls every function in the body) to function optimally.  In order for your body to be functioning at its best, it is essential that your spine gets checked. It’s a lot easier for us to stay on top of, and be proactive with your health, than to be reactive and try to “fix” something every once in awhile.

Q: Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?

A: Adjustment of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released.

Q: Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?

A: Yes, it is essential that in this time of growth, their nervous system is functioning well so that the body has the best chance to grow healthy.  Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.

Q: Can I and/or should I get adjusted when I am pregnant?

A:  Absolutely!  Chiropractic is extremely safe for pregnant mothers.  Many pregnant women find that chiropractic adjustments improve the pregnancy experience and make delivery easier. Adjustments are adapted to accommodate the stage of pregnancy and the unique needs of each patient.  The pregnancy process takes a toll on the body, especially the spine and pelvis, so we want to make sure spinal and nervous system function is optimal for the benefit of the mother and the baby!
